Voice actor Johnny Hardwick, renowned for his role in ‘King of the Hill’, has sadly passed away at the age of 64.
Confirmation of Hardwick’s death came from the Austin Texas Police Department, who had responding to a welfare check call on Tuesday (August 8).
A lifeless body discovered was later identified as Hardwick. Authorities from the Austin police department have stated that there is no suspicion of foul play in his death, according to Fox News.
An exact cause of death is still yet to be determined by the Travis County Medical Examiner, and is not known at this time.
Hardwick lent his voice to the character Dale Gribble on the animated comedy series ‘King of the Hill’, with Gribble making his debut in the show’s inaugural episode back in 1997. The series concluded its run in 2010 after a total of 259 episodes.
His contributions to the show garnered an Emmy Award in 1999, seeing the show take home an award for outstanding animated program. The show was nominated for two more, in 2001 and 2002.
‘King of the Hill,’ was co-created by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, and featured Hardwick alongside fellow talents such as Kathy Najimy, Stephen Root, and Pamela Adlon.
In January this year, an announcement was made about the revival of the beloved comedy, with Hardwick’s name listed among the cast members.
Craig Erwich, President of ABC Entertainment, Hulu, and Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals, shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming revival, stating to Deadline: “We are all so excited to welcome back Hank, Peggy and Bobby, and to see what they have to say about the world we live in and continue the conversations we began years ago.
“This show has all of the perfect ingredients to meet this moment in animation at Hulu, and we’re so thankful to be having those conversations alongside this talented group.”
Hardwick’s career took root in the 1990s as a stand-up comedian before he ventured into the world of voice acting, but truly made a lasting mark with his portrayal of Dale Gribble in ‘King of the Hill’.
