In another apparent attack on the royal family Prince Harry has once again divided opinion after he spoke of the “pain” and the “suffering” he experienced growing up.
Just last week Prince Harry appeared on a podcast to promote a documentary series “The Me You Can’t See,” comparing his life to “a mix between The Truman Show and being in a zoo.”
At the center of The Truman Show, a 1998 American psychological movie, is an insurance salesman who finds out his whole life is actually a reality TV show.
During the podcast Harry did say there was “no blame” but added: “Certainly when it comes to parenting, if I have experienced some kind of pain or suffering because of the pain or suffering that perhaps my father, or my parents, had suffered, I’m going to make sure I break that cycle so I don’t pass it on.”
Despite saying there was no blame his comments have been interpreted as yet another attack on his father and even the Queen as head of the institution and mother of Prince Charles.
“I’ve seen behind the curtain, I’ve seen the business model, I know how this operation runs and how it works,” Harry said in the interview on the Armchair Expert podcast, hosted by actor Dax Shepard.
“I don’t want to be part of this.”
“Look what it did to my mum,” he added, referring to Princess Diana, who was being followed by paparazzi after her divorce from Prince Charles when she died in a car crash in Paris in 1997.
His most recent attack on the inner workings of the royal family comes just three months after he and his wife Meghan Markle sat down with Oprah Winfrey and said that a member of the royal family had expressed concerns over how dark the color of their child might be, referring to their son Archie.
Harry also said his father had “cut him off” which had raised concerns over their security and that his family had failed to support Meghan after she experienced suicidal thoughts.
Harry returned to the U.K. in April for his grandfather’s funeral where he is said to have received a frosty response from his brother Prince William and Prince Charles.
Now Prince William is said to have been saddened by Harry’s latest attack on their family, insiders have claimed.
A royal source told the Daily Mail: “Prince William is, of course, saddened by the recent developments because of the way Prince Harry is putting such deeply personal pain into the public domain, invading all the family’s privacy.
“It is fair to say that, even now, William does privately have conversations about the relationship with his father, which has been strained in the past.
“There was much hurt after his mother’s death and both brothers at times found their father’s commitment to his work difficult to comprehend.”
Insiders have said in the past that there was a lot of tension between the brothers and their father after Diana’s death but William has worked hard to repair the relationship he has with his father.
The source added Charles and William now have “a lot of mutual respect” and the Duke of Cambridge “would never even comprehend for one moment speaking publicly in the way Harry has done in the past week.”
They added that William had “learned lessons from his upbringing” and aims to put his family first but also believes developing a relationship with his dad is “critical” for the monarchy’s future.
The brothers are expected to meet again publicly in the U.K. for the unveiling of a statue to mark what would have been Princess Diana’s 60th birthday.
There was speculation that Harry would not be returning for this unveiling as he was concerned about leaving his wife Meghan who is expecting their second child, a girl this summer.
But the event is set to go ahead and Harry has vowed to “absolutely” be there, however a royal expert says the more Harry speaks publicly about his family before the event the harder the event will be, as per the Mirror newspaper.
“The Me You Can’t See,” produced by Oprah Winfrey, is set to premiere on Apple TV Plus on May 28.
I hope this important event to honor Princess Diana is not overshadowed by the tensions between her sons. This is not what their mother would have wanted. Let’s hope they reconcile their differences and move forward, for the sakes of the children they are bringing into the world.
