Teen thinks he’s landed huge fish – what he reels in leaves him without words

If you’ve ever been fishing, you’ll know all too well that it often requires an ungodly amount of patience. Long periods of waiting in silence are punctuated by sudden eruptions of excitement when you realize something has taken your bait.

It’s not for everyone, that’s for sure, but I myself can attest to the satisfaction on offer when you finally land the thing you’ve been trying to catch… a fish.

I can only imagine, then, the sense of intrigue one Minnesota teen experienced when he reeled in a wallet containing a not-insignificant amount of cash.

According to reports, Connor Halsa was on a fishing trip at Lake of the Woods, Minnesota, when he felt a tug on his rod and naturally assumed he’d hooked a big fish.

After reeling in his line, however, Connor realized it wasn’t a fish at all, but rather someone’s wallet.

Speaking to WDAY-TV, the 14-year-old said: “My cousin opened the wallet up, and he said some words you probably shouldn’t say, and he showed everyone.”

It turned out the wallet wasn’t just an old item discarded by someone who had no further use for it. No, inside was a business card and $2,000.

Now, at this point I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to say that a lot of teens out there would have pocketed the money for themselves. After all, who would know?

Connor, though, is cut from a different cloth. He consulted his father and the pair agreed that the right thing to do was to call the number on the business card in an attempt to reunite the wallet with its owner.

“We didn’t work hard for the money, he did, so it was his money,” Connor explained.

The wallet belonged to one Jim Denny, a farmer from Iowa who revealed he had lost it while on a fishing trip a year prior.

Jim travelled to Moorhead, Minnesota to meet up with Connor and his family. He offered Connor money as thanks for finding his lost wallet, but the teen declined.

Instead, Jim crafted a custom-made cooler for Connor. “I have the billfold in my hands, and it is still hard to believe,” the farmer said.

What an amazing gesture made by this kind young man. Share this article on Facebook so that Connor’s act can spread even further.
